Deck construction can vary quite a bit based on the type of materials used, the terrain where the deck is being built, and the layout/dimensions of the deck. Things that can increase the project cost include, tall/high decks, additional staircases, rocky terrain, complicated layouts, or high-end finishes. A very rough general guideline is to budget $60/sf for basic finishes and layout, with higher grade finishes and other factors increasing the total project cost.

After you reach out, we review photos of your project and review the project details and general scope. If the project is a good initial fit, we will reach out to schedule an onsite estimate to get measurements and inspect the project area. After our onsite visit, we will provide you with an initial estimate/proposal with a broad scope and material choice. We offer one revision to the proposal to adjust for materials/design criteria. If the initial estimate is approved, we move forward with a deposit and contract to secure your spot on our schedule. We then review the project scope and finalize design choices before drawing up the plans for your permit. Then we take the wheel from there, keeping you informed as we get closer to your project start date.

We are deck builders, not contractors. So you get our crew onsite for each job.  We operate a small crew of 3-4 carpenters, with training specific to deckbuilding. Our crew is made up of all w2 employees with workers comp insurance and background checks.  We occasionally work with other specialty tradesman to troubleshoot issues beyond our scope including electrical, gas plumbing, waste removal, specialty foundation work, or extensive landscaping.

We handle all permit requirements of your local municipality, including drawings, permit submission, inspection compliance, and permit closing. For deck projects that require engineered specs, we work with local engineers and adjust the scope and pricing accordingly. During deck construction, there can be items that change the initial scope of work (water damage from previous deck flashing issues, unique soil conditions, siding details, or grading considerations). For items that aren't clear until the project starts, we communicate required changes to the scope through change orders and suggest fixes that can be performed by our crew, or other qualified tradesman if outside of our skillsets.

Depending on the scope, a deck project can run 2-6 weeks depending on the size, materials, and scope of the project. This accounts for scheduling in required inspections, any required concrete curing time, and the time to complete your deck. For an average deck rebuild, you can expect the following: Our crew sets up a small tent onsite with tables and tools for the duration of the project. We have a port-a-john delivered for use by our crew, and coordinate places on the property where we can place materials as they arrive. For projects requiring demolition of an old deck, we have a dumpster onsite for debris removal. For projects requiring footing work or any grading, we will have a machine on site, which will be used to dig footings and do any required groundwork. For concrete footings, curing time (7 days) is required before Framing. Our team then is onsite for framing, decking, and railing installation, typically between the hours of 8am & 4pm scheduled based on project needs.
